book blurb

I've always been a fighter,
Even before I knew it was in my blood.
I fought the demons of my past.
I fought for my life.
I fought for the future I wanted.

Growing up in a foster home, after my father killed my mother,
I fought for who I was,
Who I could become.

And now, it's what I do, what I am.
My career is in the ring, taking down every opponent I face,
Every enemy who threatens me.
I fight.

But now, I've got the biggest fight of my life,
Fighting for her, the one I want,
The one I can't have.
Salem Harris is taken, but I swear to God,
She'll be mine, even if I go down for the count,
I'll fight like Hell for her,
Or die trying.

***Please note this book was formerly released as a two book series, On the Ropes and Going the Distance. It has been reedited and consolidated into one. Heavy sexual content including a F/F/M scene. If such a scene may upset you, this may not be the book for you.

meet the author

Born and raised in New England, Christa is a married mother of three. She began writing her first book, Broken, in October 2012, as a love story to her husband, Frank. During the writing process, Christa managed to keep her book a secret from the majority of her family and friends, including her mother. She finally revealed that she had written a book on her personal Facebook page just two weeks before Broken was released.

Broken was released in February 2013, and within twenty-four hours of its release, it was on Amazon's Movers and Shakers list as well as in the Top 20 Erotica. Christa released her second novel, On the Ropes - Book One in the Down for the Count series, in February 2014. On the Ropes has also climbed the charts on Amazon, hitting the Top 10 Sports Fiction and the Top 20 Romance Sports Fiction lists. Book Two, Going the Distance, was released July 2014 and claimed the number 3 spot in the Interracial category as well being in the top 20 in Erotica on Amazon.

I received a copy of DELILAH: TREACHEROUS BEAUTY by Angela Hunt in exchange for an honest review.  It is the third installment in the “Dangerous Beauty” series.  I have not previously read the other books, so I can safely say this works fine as a standalone novel.

This is the fictional tale of the Biblical couple Samson and Delilah.  This is the first time I’ve read historical fiction about either of them, so I was eager to gobble it up.  The historical detail is incredible.  You can taste the air in Philistia!

As a child, my mom and I would read Bible stories for kids, and Delilah was often painted as a horrible person.  I remember on one book, the cover contained Samson and she lurked in the shadows.  My favorite aspect of DELILAH is that she is a real person.  She has her good points and her bad, her skills and her flaws.  Not once do you see her as wholly good or wholly evil.  She is just real.  I can see this sparking many conversations, and this would work great in a church reading group.

I highly recommend this to fans of Christian fiction and historical fiction.  Regarding the historical fiction part, you don’t need to be of strong religious beliefs to find this an engaging story.

The Beautiful Thread

I received a copy of THE BEAUTIFUL THREAD by Penelope Wilcock from Lion Hudson via Kregel in exchange for an honest review.  It is the eighth installment in the Hawk and Dove series.  Once again, I can’t express enough how much I absolutely love this series of historical fiction.  By historical fiction, the series takes place in the fourteenth century.  I love reading about that time period.

As with all the books in “the Hawk and the Dove,” THE BEAUTIFUL THREAD comes highly recommended for those who love Christian fiction set in the past.  This series is set in a Benedictine abbey in Yorkshire. In this installment, William du Bulmer is in danger and needs the help of Abbot John and the other monks.  The best part (depending on how you look at it)?  Abbot John is falling in love!

I find Abbot John to be a powerful role model for readers both young and old.  It doesn’t matter what religion you are, you can find something in Abbot John to help change your mind set for the better.

As a note, you don’t need to have read the other books in the series to adore this one.  However, if you have read the previous books, they just make this one all the more rewarding.
